The man in the arena

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions and spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best, knows the triumph of high achievement, and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat.”

No es el crítico quien cuenta; no es aquel que muestra como el fuerte cayó o donde el bienhechor pudo haberlo hecho mejor. El crédito le pertenece al hombre que está en la arena; cuyo rostro esta pringado de polvo, sudor y sangre; que lucha valientemente; que erra y queda corto una y otra vez; que conoce los grandes entusiasmos, las grandes devociones, y gasta su vida por una causa justa; aquél que, en el mejor de los casos, conoce el triunfo de los grandes logros, y que en el peor de los casos, si es que falla, por lo menos falla soñando alto, para que su lugar nunca sea con aquellas frias y tímidas almas que no conocen ni la victoria ni la derrota.
